The data. The Pennsylvania Department of State publishes its register as open data (Registered Businesses in PA). The checker searches active business registrations with the Pennsylvania Department of State.
How current it is. The state last refreshed it on October 6, 2026. It publishes updates every month. A name filed after that won't show yet.
Active businesses only. Pennsylvania's data leaves out dissolved and inactive businesses. Some of their names can still be unavailable, so confirm a close call on the official search.

What one search checks
The state's business register. We search the records the state itself publishes and show the closest names on file with their status, so you can see why a name is or isn't free.
“Blue Ridge Air” in Colorado
Similar namesFrom data published by the Colorado Secretary of State. A preliminary check: the state decides when you file.
The .com. Customers will look for your website. We ask the registry that runs .com directly, then check .com for every alternative we suggest.
Words that need approval. Words like bank, insurance, trust and university often need a regulator's sign-off. We flag them before you spend money on a filing.
Federal trademarks. A name can be free with the state and still clash with a registered trademark. We copy your name and open the USPTO's search so you can paste it.
Other states we search live
For the other 44 states and DC, the checker still tests the .com and restricted words, and takes you to the state's official search with your name ready to paste.
